What is Toastmasters?
Toastmasters club is an organization that offers a place for people like you and me to experience the joy of mastering public speaking and speak confidently in front of a group of audience. Besides having the supportive environment to practice on public speaking, you can meet people from different works of life who will share their stories and experiences with you. We learn together as a whole. Members are given ‘air’ time during the chapter meetings to do impromptu speeches that allows one to think on their feet and response to the given topic, usually 1-2 minutes by the Table Topic Master. After which there will also be a session of prepared speeches based on projects from the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Program Manuals. Projects will cover various topics such as speech organization, voice, language, gestures and persuasion. Constructive evaluations offered by their assigned evaluators who identifies the strengths and how to better improve on the speeches.
Speaking Tools
Each new member upon joining Toastmasters Club will receive a variety of manuals and resources on speaking. An award-winning magazine, The Toastmaster, will also be sent to the member monthly, which provides great insights on speaking and leadership techniques.
Leadership
For members who are interested to pursue a path of leadership, they are encouraged to join the executive committee and taking up roles in the organizing of the chapter meetings to develop their leadership skills. Just like Toastmasters members learn speaking through speaking, they learn leadership through leading.
